We consider each & every llama at Lladyhawk Llamas to be a friend!
We maintain a relatively small herd of around 50 animals.
We know each of them by name, and we know each of them intimately with regard to their individual personality.
Some of them are simply NOT for sale.
Some of them ARE for sale. And we admit...we find that a bit emotionally difficult. How does one choose which ones don't get to stay?!
Our philosophy with regard to selling animals is demonstrated in the actual procedure we follow: We spend a LOT of time with potential buyers and we make VERY sure that the animal they have chosen has been chosen for the right reasons. We make sure a person and an animal are a good "match" based on several criteria. We ASK potential owners the following questions (for starters):
Will the animal be used for breeding?
For Show -performance or halter?
For Packing? As a hiking companion?
As a child's pet?
As a therapy or PR animal?
What do you know about llamas? Do you know how to properly care for a llama?
What type of shelter/fence will you provide?
What type of transport do you intend to use?
Do you have a llama vet?
Have you taken any llama training classes or do you intend to?
Do you have other pets?
What about your neighbors?
We try to do a sight visit before any paperwork is signed.
We will NOT sell just one animal to any person who does not have other llamas at home, unless the animal is going as a guard for a herd of goats, sheep, alpacas, etc.. Llamas are herd animals and NEED at least one other llama buddy to live with....and if there are just two, they should ideally be of a close age range.
We love to help new llama owners with care and training questions and will help you learn while you decide which animal is right for you! We also board animals for those that don't have the right space for them.
Our llamas are very special to us and in order for us to feel good about letting them go to a new home, we have to feel confident that they will be loved and cared for in the same manner as they have been loved and cared for by us. Obviously, we can't keep every single animal born on our ranch....and while they are all special to us, we know that there are many special people out there that will enjoy them and love them and DESERVE to have them too!!
SO...come see us! See which ones you fall in love with! We'll find you the perfect match!
